Technology has advanced a lot since the heyday and the process of drawing blood from the vein has nothing but a quick and sterile jab. Once you attend the phlebotomy training sessions or classes, you will learn how to properly draw the blood out of the patients without causing a lot of discomfort to the patients. These classes are very strict and require a lot of disciplines from the students as the job itself is important and does not allow any mistake.
Besides learning how to collect blood samples from patients, students will also learn how to handle materials that are considered biohazard such as blood samples, used or unused syringe, and many more. Becoming a phlebotomist means having to deal with all these items and students will be exposed to it, with the hope that once they had finished with their courses, they will know what to do when facing such situations.
Other than that, students of phlebotomy training classes or courses will also be taught on how to behave in front of patients. Bedside manner is one of the most important criteria to join the medical field and students need to master this lesson. A phlebotomist often needs to meet patients to take their blood samples and they should know how to behave and be able to show empathy and caring to the patients.
